A beautiful and elegant Koto period blade, ca. 1500 AD. Hamon suguha with lots of subtle activity. O-suriagi, signed Yoshihide ca. 1800 stating that prior to shortening this blade was signed Nobukuni, an interesting and valuable record of the sword's history. Excellent quality mounts. Russet iron tsuba, delicately carved with a pine cone and needle design. Fuchi kashira of iron with highly crafted black shakudo in Japanese beetle and spider motif. Delicate details in gold and silver. Gold menuki in the form of snails. Kozuka handle also of shakudo and gold, depicting a beautifully detailed lobster. Kozuka signed Kanemitsu Oshu ___. Lacquer to saya excellent, overall excellent. Overall 23 1/8" in saya, nagasa 15 1/16".
