Item #: bq1584 -- Very fine Wakizashi, Signed Izumi no Kami Kanisada -- $5000.00

The ubu nakago is signed in six characters, Izumi no Kami Kanisada. There are several generations of Mino, Ise and Iwashiro smiths who worked from the late Koto through the Shinto periods who used this signature. This blade appears to be an early Shinto work, ca. 1700. The blade is an unusual almost straight unokubi-zukuri form with a large active gunome hamon. Nie, nioi and sunagashi are all apparent. The blade is in good old polish with no flaws and will be outstanding in new polish. The mounts include matching shakudo menuki and fuchi/kashira with horse motif with gold and silver details. The tsuka is very fine with excellent ito wrap and large nodule same. The grooved saya is finished in black lacquer. The tsuba is Higo-school work in iron with excellent gold inlay of paulownia design. 56.5 cm. overall, with 37.4 cm. blade nagasa.
