An excellent German-made U.S. Civil War Period Non-Regulation officer's sword, as used by both field and foot officers. Fine bright blade etched with American eagle, "U.S." and "E. PLURIBUS UNUM," "IRON PROOF," and stamped to the reverse forte with an arrow mark and "SOLINGEN" within an oval cartouche. The obverse with brass proof plug. Original untouched pommel peen, blue sharkskin grip with copper wire binding 100 intact. Pierced gothic-style steel hilt with American eagle and "E. PLURIBUS UNUM," wide scrolled rear quillon and plain steel backstrap. Two-ring steel scabbard. VG; iron components with smooth chocolate patina, blade bright, the scabbard with some superficial scale and lightly pitted areas and one small ding to the obverse.
