Item #: BQ3449 -- An Outstanding Japanese Shinto Period Long Signature Yokoyama Sukesada Wakizashi -- $3750.00
This blade includes its original shirasaya with beautiful gold foil habaki. The ubu one hole nakago is signed "Yokoyama Kozuke Daijo Fugiwara Sukesada," and on the reverse "Bizen Osafune junin." The hamon is choji gunome with extended yakiba. This smith's most active work date is around 1661, i.e. the Kanbun period. He is listed in Hawley's at 80 pts. and as Josaku in the Shinto vol. of Fujishiro, p.487. The old polish is excellent and the blade is healthy with a couple of very tiny nail-catcher nicks at the kissaki that will be totally removed with a fresh polish. The shirasaya displays a fine age patina and fits the blade perfectly. 42.5 cm. Blade nagasa.
