This blade includes its original shirasaya with beautiful gold foil habaki. The ubu two ana nakago is signed ”Kashu ju Fujiwara Kanewaka”, and is not dated but falls into the Shinto period between 1600-1650. The hamon is medium suguha with small choji gonome effects. This sword was made by one of three generations of smiths working during this period. He is listed in Hawley at between 30 & 75 pts. and as Chu-Jo to Josaku in the Shinto vol. of Fujishiro, p.51-53. The old polish is very excellent and the blade is healthy and robust. The shirasaya is missing one of the ivory ana eyelets. It displays a fine age patina and fits the blade perfectly. 40 cm. nagasa.
