A late 18th century American Revolutionay War period European hunting sword with robust, straight multifullered blade with short false edge at the point. The blade displays an etched running stag and wild boar within the fullers. The ricasso with a panaply of arms on the reverse face and Latin words including, "Imperator Romanus" on the obverse face. The hilt is fire gilt brass mounted and has a fine one-piece ivory handle. A handsome example in fine period condition. The blade with minor edge nicks and old areas of rust patina. Most of the gilding is worn away and the ivory displays hairline cracks and minor surface stains. The scabbard lacking.
