A late 18th century American Revolutionary War period French hunting sword, marked by a Paris maker. The blade etched with inscriptions to each side of the ricasso and though the steel is dark with age it exhibits a strong a damascus pattern. The hilt is brass mounted with dog's head crossguard . The handle is of carved ebony. A handsome example in fine period condition with slight loss of wood at the back edge of the pommel. Lacking the scabbard.
