Item #: BQ3246 -- A Fine Original Mid 19th Century Percussion Pennsylvania / Kentucky Rifle with arrel by J.H. Johnston -- $4375.00

A fine original mid 19th century percussion Pennsylvania-Kentucky rifle with octagonal 40 caliber J.H. Johnston barrel and Golcher made lock. Full-length tiger striped maple stock in the early style with brass mounts including an elaborate brass patchbox and a shield-shaped silver thumb plate. Another oval stock inlay is now absent. The stock with curved linear carved decoration and cheek piece. The wrist area of the stock displays a period copper plate repair. A wonderful untouched example with excellent patina, minor wood losses and lots of eye appeal. See “The Pennsylvania-Kentucky Rifle” by Henry J. Kauffman for additional information, including a Johnston photographic illustration on plate 24, page 25. 136 cm. overall.
