Item #: BQ2828 -- An Early Northern European Bearded Axe -- $1500.00
An original Northern European beaded axe, probably ca. 13th-17th century; possibly earlier. The hand-forged head displays laminations, heavy pitting and surface wear. The darkened hardwood hafting and iron buttcap are later; probably a 19th century addition. A very handsome sculptural tool that could have also have served as a close quarter weapon. The cutting face is 15.7 cm. L., 69 cm. overall. A rarely seen form worthy of further research.
