Item #: BQ2808 -- A Japanese Gendai Katana, Signed Kanemori -- $3125.00
An excellent early Showa WWII period private purchase Gendai katana signed, "Kike Ichneumon Kanemori." The blade has a strong wide choji-gunome hamon and the nakago is ubu, one hole. The Samurai-style tsuka and habaki on this sword are original and unaltered. The valuable tsuba is an early Edo period, ca. 1600, Kathiawar sword maker's tsuba which fits the blade well. The saya is recently but traditionally made and is completed in ishimi textured black lacquer with an added band of same. The fuchi is Edo period and of high quality, of shakudo with heavy gold inlay and with an unusual inner sleeve. The kashira is of old horn and the copper menuki are in the form of running shishi dogs; displaying much oxidation. The ito is stained from use and slightly worn but is completely intact. The same is split in a couple places but complete. The blade shows scattered spots of light surface rust which would remove completely with polish. The blade has no kizu and is a prime candidate for polish. 65.4 cm. blade nagasa, 96.5 cm. overall in saya.
