Made in the style of a barrel, constructed of slats held together by iron bands. Top carved from a single piece of wood, perforated for a cork. Decoratively incised with burned-in geometric patterns. With remnants of the original leather lanyard, showing a burned in design. Base with a small paper note inscribed "From John Stevens, Oct. 1950, Whitney House." In dry, aged condition; barrel form intact but some of the slats are loose from shrinkage. Measures 6 7/8" high x 5 3/4" wide x 2 1/2" deep. From an auction in rural Pennsylvania.
