Item #: BQ2602 -- Important Gendai Katana by Jumyo, in Shingunto Military mounts -- $4125.00

A fine gendaito by famous WWII swordsmith Kato Jumyo. He was awarded a second seat, Quasi National swordsmith position at the 1941 6th Exhibition of Newly Made Swords. The nakago is ubu without acceptance stamps and with one ana, signed, "Jumyo" and states that the blade was made with Yasuki steel. Yasuki is in Izumo province and was the source of the best sand iron in Japan. A very handsome blade with fine proportions, moderate curve and fine copper habaki. It was made to look like a Koto period katana and is probably a special order forging. The hamon is highly controled gunome that is near sanbonsugi. The kissaki is slightly extended with a fine Jizo boshi. The untouched original shingunto koshirae is outstanding with added silver family mon, Fuji Wisteria, as used by several Samurai families including Naito Masanari, on the kashira, early sukashi tsuba and a total of eight graduated seppa. The blade has minor surface oxidization and age staining and the mounts show minor use and wear. 68.75cm. blade nagasa.
