Item #: BQ2546 -- An Outstanding Early Edo Period Shobuzukuri Wakizashi with Full Koshirae -- $5625.00
A wonderful mounted wakizashi with o-suriagi one hole nakago. The healthy blade has no flaws and is in old polish with a gunome hamon in Owari/Seki style and includes a very good copper habaki. The koshirae is very beautiful with original translucent brown lacquer that includes tiny pine needles and flecks of mother of pearl laid into the surface. The old hand forged tsuba has an unusual square profile and tapers slightly toward the edge. It has an ishimi surface with a hot stamped design of paulownia blossoms and small areas of linear gold inlay. The tsuka has been professionally restored with fine same and dark blue ito. The original fuchi/kashira are a matched pair, also crafted in iron with gold inlay, and go very well with the tsuba. The menuki are in shakudo in the design of flowers with excellent gold nunome details. A rare subject kodzuka handle with ko-katana completes the mounts. The plate is of shakudo with fine nanako punch work and with the gilded brass inlay of a foreigner with his parrot. This sword is outstanding in every way and will make a wonderful addition to any collection. Blade nagasa 34.60 cm.
