Item #: BQ2203 -- Scarce WWI Period Hessen Infantry Officer's Sabre -- $815.00

Intertwined EL monogram (for Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke) with Hessen and German crowns mounted to obverse of shagreen covered handle. Brass mounts with straight, plain, fullered blade etched in script on spine, in part "Munchen" (Munich). Overall good condition with slight pitting and bend in blade near tip, scabbard with loss of plate, minor rust, tiny dents and one missing screw. The handle slightly loose with a small area of shagreen loss to the inside edge. Lacking buffer at base of crossguard. Ernst Ludwig was brother of Tsarina Alexandra of Russia and very pro-allied leaning. During WWI his troop saw limited front line duty due to his position. Overall 93.5 cm. long in scabbard.
