A fine Showa-period Gunto/Army officer mounted, signed Japanese gendai- handmade katana. The sword is ubu without stamps and signed, "Noshu Tanaigushi Yoshikane Tsukuru Kore", #484, p. 33 in Fuller & Gregory's, "Swordsmiths Of Japan 1926-1945". He was awarded a 5th seat, (Rising Swordsmith) at the 1941- 6th Exhibition of Newly Made swords. The mounts are original to the blade and in excellent condition, with small losses to saya lacquer and one shallow dents near toe. Blade is in very good condition with no bends and one nail-catcher chip. The hamon is a medium gunome in near sanbonsuji with some gunome almost touching the shinogi line. It does have light scratches from cutting and a few surface rust spots that would polish out without any problems. 103.3 cm. overall in mounts, 66.8 cm. blade nagasa.
