Item #: BQ1917 -- Japanese Showa-period Naval Gendai Katana -- $2250.00

A scarce Showa period naval mounted, signed Japanese gendai- handmade katana. The sword is ubu without stamps and signed, "Ishido Mitsunobu with smith Kao". This is a seldom used alternative signature by Ishido Teruhide. He was a Tokyo smith and is listed with an oshigata in Slough's book "Modern Japanese Sword Makers 1868-1945" on page 113 with reference to p. 171. The saya has been professionally restored and finished in the correct black lacquer. The tsuka with fittings and tsuba are all original to the sword. Blade is in good stained condition with no bends, light surface rust pits and a few tiny edge nicks. The hamon is hard to determine through the grey patina but most likely is medium gunome like most Teruhides. The sword should polish out without any problems. A very interesting sword with lots of potential. 94.8 cm. overall in mounts, with 63.7 cm. blade nagasa.
