A British 1796 pattern infantry officer's sword. Single-edged spadroon type blade with flat back and wide fullers etched with floral sprays, panoplies of arms, standing infantryman, crowned "GR" cypher and maker's/retailer's inscription "COOPER & CRAVEN," (working Moor St., Birmingham, 1815-1816). Gilt bronze hilt with twisted silver wire binding . Overall GC; grip wire intact but worn, blade darkly patinated with scattered areas of light pitting, blue no longer discernable, gilt still visible in etched areas. Much gilt remaining to hilt, original pommel peen.
