An unusual cavalry saber with iron Germanic schlaeger style hilt, the blade stamped at the obverse forte "GARANTIA" and at the reverse with a rectangular cartouche, the contents of which are indiscernable. The hilt comprised of a ribbed sharkskin grip with thumb depression, leather finger loop and leather bowl liner; the hilt japanned black. Asymmetrical bowl hilt with knucklebow and two curved bars on either side. Slightly curved blade with stopped fullers, etched with panoplies of arms. As yet unidentified as to origins. Overall GC; blade mottled with areas of light pitting and dark spotting (should clean well with steel wool and oil), wear to hilt japanning. One tiny nick. Overall approx. 103.5 cm. with 87.5 cm. blade.
