A good Coorg chopper, 19th century or earlier, showing substantial age patina. The pommel cap comprised of three elliptical plates, the edges serrated and the ends upturned into loops. The faceted ferrule of iron, the handle of carved hardwood, with incised decoration beneath the pommel. The heavy blade of sickle form with wide fuller contouring the spine. The ricasso area serrated at the spine and incised on the flats with leaf and vine motif, decorated at the base with applied and chiseled florettes. The guard a rudimentary flat, round plate with scalloped edge. Overall fine original condition; the blade with forging flaws, evident grain and moderate to heavy pitting. The handle with old chipping and age cracks. Some wiggle to the hilt components, one florette applique absent. Overall 59 cm., blade about 42 cm.
