Item #: 1002-210 -- A 19th Century Moro Sondang -- $475.00
A good 19th century Moro fighting sondang with rudimentary hardwood bird's head pommel and very sharp wavy blade with single baca. Excellent grip of woven cord with two raised bands, decorated beneath the pommel with a single silver band with scalloped edge. The hilt assembly very tight and snug. Fine old hand-forged blade with separately forged ganja and well executed file work at the forte. This blade would likely show a pattern if properly etched. Contained in a hardwood scabbard with associated throat (well fitted to the blade but probably not original to the lower section) and horn toe. Overall a very good example in fine condition; the blade with dark mottling and a couple of small areas of light pitting. The scabbard throat detached, the scabbard body missing the original rattan bands. Overall in sheath 69 cm., blade 55.8 cm.
