Item #: 10-3712 -- A Fine Burmese / Thai Dha-Hmyaung Dagger with Ivory Handle, Ca. 1900 -- $875.00
A fine Burmese / Thai Dha Hmyaung dagger, ca. 1900, with plain single-edged upturned native-made laminated steel blade. The grip ferrule is of forged iron and the handle is beautifully carved and pierced ivory in the form of a standing bird figure. The scabbard is of hardwood with rattan wraps and added cordage. Due to the superb quality of the ivory carving when compared to the rest of the dagger it is likely that this component was originally paired with an earlier higher quality weapon and has been reused. This dagger is in fine original period condition with minor loss of rattan scabbard wraps. A wonderful addition to any southeast Asian collection. 42cm. overall in scabbard.
