A 19th century Mecklenburg sword with fine damascus blade, brass mounted with highly detailed cast eaglehead pommel with red inlaid eyes. The grip has been replaced during the 20th century with clear Lucite. The crossguard bears the double F monogram of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg. See "Cut & Thrust Weapons," p.273 for a similar example. The highly grained pipe-backed steel blade is etched "Eisenhauer" and "Damaststahl," within banners. The blade is in fine original period condition but the mounts require restoration. The scabbard lackingg. 88cm. overall.
