An excellent early Edo, period, ca.1650, Japanese armor maker's mokko shaped iron sukashi katana tsuba with hot stamped surface designs. The hand-forged iron plate displays highly controlled hammer worked surface and a wonderful raised mimi (edge rim).The stamped designs include tortoise shell and grouped snake eye shapes. It has a fine original russet brown surface patina 10.7cm. H.
