# BQ2285 - A Signed Original WWII Period Kai Gunto Navy Officer's Katana - $ 2880.00

A good sword with very high quality mounts in fine condition. This is an scarce oil tempered stainless steel blade, signed “Kin Saku Takayama no Tosho Ishihara Masanao and Kinshi Konuma Jotaro”. This translates to “Respectively made by swordsmith Ishihara Masanao of Hida/Hattori province and polished by Konuma Jotaro”. See Fuller & Gregory's "Swordsmiths of Japan 1926-1945", p. 168 for another oshigata and added info on this smith. The blade is in near mint condition with a very unusual short boar’s neck kissaki and a very long extended nakago. The mounts are of extra high quality with lots of gilding remaining on fittings and a fine fish skin covered saya. Several of the fittings and nakago have the matched #95. All in all a wonderful sword by a rare maker with the added history of the polishers name. A great addition to any WWII Japanese sword collection.
