21 1/2" nagasa, Notare Ba (crashing wave) hamon with Tobiyaki (floating jewels) and drifting sand formation in temper line. Very good, healthy blade with beautiful temper and no flaws. Light abrasion and oxidation along cutting edge. Suriage (sword with shortened tang) blade. 2-hole nakago, partial signature reads hitachi no kami fujiwara, probably by munishige from settsu province, most active in 1686. Noted for making very sharp blades, working in Edo. Listed in Hawley as Mun397. Scabbard appears original, but has been relacquered. Tsuka has old iron fuchi kashira. Wrap in GC, with military gunto menuki. Tsuba of old iron, ca. Approx. 1750, engraved with a wood pattern design, hand-forged. Habaki is silver-plated. This is an excellent buddy-piece for a high quality settsu province Shinto period sword, and would take an excellent polish. In polish, this sword would paper well. Overall in saya 35".
