# BQ164 - Shinto-period Wakizashi, ca. 1750 - $ 2765.00

The sword blade is ubu one hole and signed, "Minamoto Munestugu." Swordsmith was a Hizen maker. There are 7 generations listed in Hawley and the work looks like it is from the 1700's. Blade is healthy with a long yakidashi and wide active choji-gunome temper with nie, nioi and sunagashi. There are a few areas of slight ohada which is common in Hizen work. This will not effect the blade when polished. A very fine sword with good original mounts. The menuki and fuchi/kashira are all of copper-colored soft metal. The tsuba is old iron with gold basket, flowers and butterfly inlay. The original saya has been professionally restored in two-tone lacquer. 33 3/4" overall, with 21 7/8" nagasa.
