# SRCC1 - A U.S. Army "56" Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine, Ser. #10585 - $ 3000.00

A good Spencer repeating rifle with low serial number -- Flayderman lists these as having serial numbers ranging from 11,000 to 61,000 (Flayderman, 2002) -- this one is clearly stamped #10585. These rifles were personally endorsed by President Lincoln and were widely used during both the Civil War and Indian Wars. This example is fitted with the Stabler cut-off, permitting use as a single shot. 22" 3-groove barrel in .50 caliber. These alterations were executed by Springfield Armory ca. 1867-1874. Stock marked clearly "ESA" within an oval cartouche. The top of the receiver is stamped "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO BOSTON MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6 1860". Both sideplates stamped with the inspector's 'V'. Untouched, and overall NRA VG; Overall 39".
