U.S. Militia Staff Officers Sword, ca. 1840-1850 - $
1225.00
A good US militia staff officer's sword, ca. 1840-1850, in a silvered brass scabbard with two loose rings. Fluted bone grip with brass mounts and chain. Shell guard with American eagle. Blade 29 7/8", of lenticular section, well-etched for 2/3 of its length with vines, leaves, panoplies of arms, American Eagle, etc. Overall GC+; no chips to grip, mounts slightly loose (possibly from loss of the leather washer, as the peen is original), blade mottled but not pitted (would clean well). Scabbard sound, retaining most of the silver, with a couple of minor dimples and dings and one small dent to the reverse near the toe. Scabbard fits properly, but may be associated.
