A Nathan Starr Contract of 1818 militia horseman's sabre, ca. 1820-1822. Blade stamped "U S / P [Proved] / [?] / N.STARR" in four lines. The third line is an unidentified character similar to an ampersand. Typical iron reverse P type hilt (areas of delamination to the top surface of the crossguard) with threaded tang and slotted pommel nut retention. Curved blade with wide fuller and clipped point, retaining the original leather blade washer. Overall GC; thil darkly patinated, blade basically bright with numerous light edge nicks, slight damage/loss to leather grip cover beneath the reverse side of the pommel. Lacking scabbard. Blade 32", overall abt. 37 1/8".
