# 1002-313 - A Fine 19th Century Nepalese Kukri - $ 350.00

A good 19th century kukri in its original leather sheath with brass chape. The handle of iron, chiseled in relief in an abstract vegetal motif including a representation of the all-seeing eye of Buddha at the pommel. The blade probably of wootz steel, with two narrow fullers and two wide fullers (chirra), struck at either side of the forte with a mark. The cho (the cutout at the underside of the forte) is filed in fine detail in an arabesque form. The sheath is a fine-grained leather with embossed lines, repeated on the edge of the chape. The pouch at the back incorporates a flap, finely decorated with stitched baleen and enclosing an additional buckskin pouch with a small leather tassel. Overall GC; the sheath open at the bottom edge, the leather at the fold of the back pouch with a smal tear. The blade with dark spotting and a couple of areas of heavy scale. Blade 32.2 cm., overall in sheath 45.5 cm.
