A fine traditional Songye axe with hand-forged iron blade incorporating twisted and interlocking iron bars, the central of which is forged and chiseled in the form of a human face. The haft with flared butt and bulbous head, covered overall with lizard skin. Overall fine condition, with some shrinkage to the skin handle covering, the heavy head moving slighting in its setting in the haft. Showing good age and patina. The handle 38.5 cm., the edge of the blade blade extending 21 cm. from the haft.
