A Fine French Colichmarde Smallsword, ca. 1760-1780 - $

A fine 18th century French military smallsword, ca. 1760-1780 with colichmarde blade of hollow-ground triangular section. Gilded iron hilt with functional pas d'anes and bilobate shell guard, the entire hilt decorated in high relief with panoplies of arms, military accoutrements and floral motifs, along with a heraldic emblem. The blade well-etched for over 1/3 of its length with panoplies of arms, geometric, neoclassical, and royal motifs, and with the, "Rien ne m'arręte," which translates to "Nothing stops me." The grip finely wrapped with varied stages of twisted silver wire and flat banding, terminating in silver turks' heads. Excellent original condition with light oxidation to blade and light wear to gilt. A fine weapon. Overall 93 cm., blade 76.7 cm.
