A European Colichmarde Smallsword, ca. 1720-1740 - $

A good iron-hilted European smallsword, ca. 1720-1740, with colichmarde style blade of hollow-ground triangular section and bilobate guard. Large, functional pas d'anes, pommel of olive form, and plain knucklebow. The underside of the guard with incised decoration and raised border. Excellent original grip wrap of multiple gauges of copper wire separated by a broad, flat bronze band. Overall VG; the blade with light to moderate pitting near the forte (cleaned), with traces of etched decoration visible. Much of the blade and all of the hilt darkly patinaed. Overall 90 cm., blade about 73.3 cm. long.
