# BQ2807 - A Signed Kanemune Gendai Japanese Katana - $ 2670.00

Click here for fax-in order form

The blade is signed, "Shoshishi Kanemune Saku," and has an ubu one hole nagasa without any Showa/seki stamps. He is listed with oshigata in Slough's “Modern Japanese Swordsmiths 1868-1945”. He worked with and signed many works for his father, the smith Amahide. Kanemune made both gendai and Showato blades. The blade has an even gunome hamon with a few tobiyaki and a fine solid silver habaki. This sword was recently mounted by a former owner in traditional samurai mounts. The saya appears to be the relacquered original with added raffia and matching sageo. The tsuka has a recent core, same and ito wrap with quality Edo period fuchi/kashira in old iron with gold accents and the menuki seem to be cleaned gilt copper in the form of boatmen. The cast iron dragon design tsuba is probably WWII period and works well with the entire koshirae. Replacing the tsuba would be an easy upgrade. This is a very good sword with a handsome appearance that is ready for martial arts use or display. The blade displays a recent surface touch up that does not do justice to its quality. There are a few remaining moderate scratches on the surface that would be completely removed with a full polish. 65.2 cm. nagasa.
