# EMS3 - An English Civil War Period Royalist "Mortuary" Sword, ca. 1640-1650 - $ 3000.00

An English "mortuary" style horseman's broadsword. The basket with extensive punched and chiseled design including a Stuart rose on either side of the blade amid sprays of foliage. A plain, single strand wire binding covers the original wooden grip core. The blade of lenticular section with quatrefoil punchmarks and Passau running wolf to either side. Overall GC; several old silver-soldered and riveted repairs to hilt, the grip binding probably an old replacement, the blade reseated, the sword heavily and brightly cleaned. Blade 90.5 cm., overall 105 cm.
