A Central Asian Karud - $

A fine and rare Central Asian karud of large proportion, from the region of Bukhara. Good T-section blade of wootz steel, showing an interesting, but subtle, watered pattern. Lovely brown grips constructed of four well-fitted sections of rhinoceros horn, mounted with a fine silver tang band and bolsters. Sheath with copper upper mount and iron lower mount in three brazed segments; the middle wooden section with recent covering of green period fabric. Overall VG+; patches of moderate pitting ot lower scabbard mount, typical minor wear bruises to sheath, grips excellent with no chips or cracks, blade with scattered very fine pits. Blade 12 3/4", overall in sheath 19 3/4".
