#CBS2 - European Smallsword, ca. 1780 - $795.00
A good European smallsword with gilt brass hilt and oval cup. Small
representative pas d'anes with rear quillon terminating in a downturned lobe.
The grip and urn-shaped pommel with twelve facets, embellished with raised and
decorated bands. The cup plain with and elegant with raised and decorated
upper border. The blade of flattened hexagonal section, showing traces of
stands of arms and floral decor. Overall GC; blade with fine pitting overall,
etching mostly worn. Care must be taken - the blade has either lost its
temper, or was never properly tempered, and thus can be easily bent, showing
evidence of having been straightened numerous times. Otherwise the sword has
few faults and is an attractive example. Blade 31 3/4", overall 38".
