Japanese Tansu (chest) Sliding Doors.
Original 19th century chest doors brought home from Japan by a returning Army
officer. Motif of an eagle on a chrysanthemum branch and a crayfish or lobster
amongst seashells and seaweed. Leaf and tendril border. Condition of the
decorated areas is excellent, some small cracks to background area. Original
lock extant, but missing bolt. Beautiful pair, suitable for painting or
incorporating into furniture design. Each door is 15 ¾" tall x 14"
wide x 7/8 thick.
